What it does that a windshield camera cannot

Live police sightings. Other drivers mark a police location and it appears on the map the moment they do.
336,000+ camera alerts. Speed cameras, red-light cameras and Flock Safety plate readers across the US, called out by street name and distance before the driver is in range.
Police aircraft overhead. Helicopters and surveillance aircraft from public ADS-B flight data, with operator, aircraft type, altitude and distance. Not every agency broadcasts; the ones that do are shown.
Spoken severe weather warnings. Tornado, severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings from each country's official weather service, read out loud when the phone's GPS position is inside one. Free, in the US, Canada, the UK, Mexico, Brazil and 29 European countries.
Remote viewing. The parked car streams to any web browser with two-way audio.
Google Drive backup. Crash and parking clips upload to the user's own Drive on their own.
Records in the background. The camera runs as a foreground service, so recording continues while Maps, Uber or Lyft is on screen.

And the dash cam basics

Loop recording at 1080p, 720p or 480p, SD card support, speed and time stamped on every clip.
Crash detection that saves and locks the clip so loop recording cannot overwrite it.
Parking mode: motion wakes the camera, the flash strobes, the clip uploads. An on-device AI check saves a threat clip only when something lingers or approaches. Near-zero power on AMOLED screens.
On-device object detection (people, cars, trucks, motorcycles) with live boxes and auto-saved clips.
USB second camera for a rear view. Time-lapse export. Trip log with route, distance and time.

Story angles

The radar detector for helicopters. The aircraft alert is the feature nobody has seen from a dash cam. Our TikTok post about it is the most-viewed thing we have made.
The old phone in the drawer. A 2017 Android on a mount with an OBD cable is a parking-mode dashcam with cloud backup, for the cost of a cable. Guide: turn an old phone into a dashcam.
Rideshare and delivery drivers. It keeps recording while the rider app is open, stamps speed and location on the clip, and backs up crash clips to Drive before the phone leaves the car.
Deer season. The app began as a deer-detection experiment (the package name is still com.deerdash) and became a dash cam instead. What survived is a spoken wildlife hotspot warning before stretches with reported sightings, and the honest line that a phone camera does not spot deer for you.
Weather warnings for free. Official warnings from 35 countries, spoken in the car, with no account and no subscription.
